I am assuming you made sure you got one with a good barrel. In good looking condition and likely refurbished over the years of service. There is a lot of extra wood one a VZ stock just be careful around where the metal parts fit so that you dont sand past where the metal is supposed to be flush fit to the stock. Scrub hard you cant hurt it and will probably have to sand pretty deep to get past the dents and oil soaked wood. On an old VZ stock the cosmo and grease has usually penetrated pretty deep into the wood. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number and ZBROJOVKA BRNO, A.S. Its pretty hard to tell sometimes when the stock has turned a chocolate color from dirt and old grease.The stocks tend to be pretty beat up and many have cracked handguards (which are getting hard to find)There are a number of postings on cleaning old stocks so take your pick of methods. I must have had 20 pass through my hands plus what I have seen in gunshows and used racks. I use VZ24 with bad barrels or those in really poor condition to make sporters.
